ABOUT TRUE NORTH RECOVERY

We assist our clients in discovering their true selves so they can live a happier and healthier life in complete recovery. We believe all of our clients are entitled to a safe environment for recovery, where you can focus on doing the internal work instead of worrying about the things happening around you.

Letter From Our CEO

At True North we believe addiction is not a character flaw. It is most often an avoidance strategy.

Substances are rarely the root problem. They are the mechanisms people use to escape discomfort. Emotional pain, fear, shame, anger, boredom, grief, and responsibility. When that pattern of avoidance is not addressed directly, recovery does not last.

Across our programs, we see this consistently. Relapse is far more often driven by avoidance than by craving. People do not return to substances because they are incapable of handling life. They return because they have not yet learned how to stay present with it.

Avoidance takes many forms. In active addiction, it looks like substances. In early recovery, it often looks like distraction, rationalization, over-intellectualizing, or compliance without engagement. If avoidance is left unchallenged, it simply changes shape.

This is why our program philosophy is clear: Recovery fails when avoidance is left unchallenged.

At True North, we do not equate comfort with care. We believe effective treatment requires structure, accountability, and honest engagement with reality. Emotional literacy is a skill that must be practiced, not just discussed. Regulation matters more than suppression. Insight matters only when it leads to action.

We are direct by design. Not because we lack compassion, but because clarity saves lives. Accountability is not shame. Discomfort is not harm. Avoidance, when reinforced, is.

Our approach is trauma-informed, structured, and intentional. We believe safety comes from boundaries, consistency, and skill-building. Not from removing all challenge. Growth requires engagement, and engagement requires the willingness to stay present with what is uncomfortable.

We are not trying to be everything to everyone. We are committed to being effective.
Recovery begins when escape ends. That belief guides our work, our programs, and our expectations.

That is who we are. That is how we practice. And that is the standard we hold.

With Love,
Bryce Givens
